Why do we learn music?

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement (The National Curriculum). At Brunel we believe in providing a music curriculum that allows our pupils to experience, learn and excel at this art form; where children have opportunities to perform, compose and develop a critical and thoughtful appreciation of the worldwide range of musical styles both from the past and in the present.

Our approach

Following the Ark Music Programme, all our children across the school engage with the vocal curriculum that is lead by qualified and experienced singing coaches. In Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, children also have Djembe and Ukulele lessons taught by specialist artists. Our music curriculum is further enhanced by enrichment activities, such as choirs, instrumental ensembles and special musical events that are held throughout the year.
