Why do we learn Religious Education?

Our RE curriculum is based on an enquiry approach, making RE lessons exciting, engaging and thought-provoking. It promotes British values and enhances children’s learning and spiritual development. It encourages the celebration of diversity. It intends to help children to articulate and communicate their thoughts and to make them appreciate the experiences, beliefs and thoughts of those in their community and beyond.

Our approach

The curriculum is taught via a sequence of enquiry modules. Christianity is taught in every year group and learning about Christmas and Easter develops each year in a progressive way. Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism and also included. The Four Step Enquiry Model The key question for the enquiry is such that it demands an answer that weighs up ‘evidence’ and reaches a conclusion based on this. This necessitates children using their subject knowledge and applying it to the enquiry question, rather than this knowledge being an end in itself. The curriculum focuses on critical thinking skills, on personal reflection into the child’s own thoughts and feelings, on growing subject knowledge and nurturing spiritual development.
